Aliza Olmert

Studio, Israel, 2005

Oil on ironing board, 134x40 cm.

A landscape painting, one of a series depicting cypress trees that Aliza Olmert finds herself painting repeatedly over and again. a landscape close to her immediate environment.

Dark cypresses, crowd together, upright their tops - sharp and spiky, their shadows rather gloomy.

In the extraordinary work on display here, she makes use of her ironing board as substitute for her canvases and wood board on which she has painted this series. The ironing board is transformed into an ambiguous mode of expression.
